Market study · August 2026

One clinic wins half of Manchester's AI search. Most win nothing.

We put twenty-five questions to AI-assisted search — the kind patients ask before booking — and recorded every Greater Manchester clinic that came back. Seventy-eight appeared at least once. One appeared in twelve. What separates it is visible in the address bar.

Ranked by how many of the twenty-five questions returned each clinic. National chains are marked — they compete on page volume rather than local reputation.

What the leaders have in common

We expected the top of that table to be the best-known names in Manchester aesthetics. It isn't. Every clinic near the top has a page for each treatment it offers, named for the treatment and the city. That alone reaches the top ten.

But it doesn't explain CLNQ, which won twelve questions when the next clinic won nine. For that, look at what CLNQ has that almost nobody else does:

  • clnq.com/conditions/hyperhidrosis/
  • clnq.com/conditions/rosacea/
  • clnq.com/conditions/dark-circles/
  • lumiereclinic.co.uk/conditions/pigmentation-uneven-skin/
  • currentbodyclinic.com/conditions/melasma
  • re-enhance.com/your-conditions/eyes/dark-circles/

Pages about the problem, not the treatment.

Nobody types “hyaluronidase”. They ask about their lumpy lip. Nobody searches “Dermalan” — they search for the brown patches on their face. Patients describe a condition and ask what to do about it, and the assistant answers with whoever wrote about that condition.

Every clinic in this study with a dedicated conditions section was named more than once. Without exception. Most clinics have only a treatment menu — which answers a question their patients don't yet know how to ask.

We then ran the same test in London. Different city, different clinics, ten times the price point — and the same pattern. The clinics winning London have conditions sections too.

The market splits in two

Treatment questions

“Microneedling Manchester.” “How much is lip filler.” These go to whoever has the page — increasingly national chains with industrial page coverage. Independents are being squeezed out of the highest-intent questions.

Trust questions

“Safest clinic.” “Nurse-led.” “Accredited.” These go to whoever appears on the registers and directories. Independents still win here — but through someone else's website, not their own.

Ten of fifteen answers were sourced from a directory or listicle rather than any clinic's own site. Most Manchester clinics are renting their visibility. The three at the top own theirs.

Method. Twenty-five buyer-intent questions were put to AI-assisted search during August 2026, phrased as patients ask them rather than as search keywords. Every clinic named in a returned recommendation was recorded. Counts reflect how many of the twenty-five questions surfaced each clinic, across Greater Manchester, Stockport, Salford, Bolton and Trafford.

Limitations. AI assistants return different answers to the same question at different times, for different people and in different places. This describes a pattern observed across one set of runs; it is not a fixed ranking. It measures visibility only, and makes no claim about clinical quality, safety or patient outcomes.

Corrections. If your clinic is represented inaccurately here, tell us and we will correct it the same day.
